Celebrity hair stylist, Andrea Wilson
How did you get your start?
As a little girl growing up in Jamaica I always loved hair my dolls had the best hairstyles. I always knew college was not for me so right after high school I went to Wilfred Academy Beauty School to become a cosmetologist where I excelled. One day I was asked to work on a music video. I caught the bug, I could not believe you could work on such an exciting project be creative and also get a paycheck. I knew then that I wanted to do this forever.
What do you love most about being a hair stylist?
What I love most about being a hairstylist is the ability to help transform and make women feel special. Our hair is such a big part of our everyday lives and when it’s not right it can ruin a good day.
How would you describe your style?
How would I describe my style? I would not say I have a particular style as hair trends along with fashion and is always changing. I have been very fortunate to have worked in the Music, T.V., and Fashion industry for over 15 years and have had to do all kind of hairstyles as well as think outside the box and also bring others vision to life.
Tricks of the trade? What can’t you live without on set?
There are a few things I can’t live without on set. Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray, Elnett Satin Hairspray Dry shampoo and lots of hair extensions
Where do you draw your inspiration?
I draw my inspiration from living in one of the most diverse and expressive city in the world, NY, and also from my travels to other countries.
Upcoming hair trends?
The Bob is back and better than ever. It’s cut medium and shoulder length, styled with texture and waves, Boho waves and long ponytails, using braids and mixed materials as hair ornaments. It’s gonna be a very good year for hair!
Most memorable shoot?
That’s a hard question to answer because I have had so many. They are all a little special in their own ways, some because of the models, some because of the location. One of my most memorable shoot was working with supermodel, client and friend Veronica Webb for Asif Magazine. And another was doing a photo shoot in New Delhi India .
